What is Fibromyalgia?

Aloha, Oregon fibromyalgia treatmentWe have treated many people with fibromyalgia and other pain disorders in our Beaverton, OR office, and we get many queries about what exactly fibromyalgia is.

Fibromyalgia is a syndrome that is distinguished by wide-spread pain, sleep problems, dysfunctional pain processing, exhaustion, and may trigger depression or anxiety. There are many other ailments associated with fibromyalgia, including:

  • Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
  • Fuzzy cognition and thinking
  • Difficulty with memory
  • Painful menstruation
  • Disrupted sleep
  • Long-term headaches or migraines
  • Prickling in the feet or fingers
  • Morning stiffness

In individuals with fibromyalgia, we find that the central nervous system gets "activated" or over-stimulated. This results in a rapid firing of pain impulses and also brings about the wide assortment of whole-body symptoms.

Chiropractic adjustments have been found to be beneficial for patients struggling from fibromyalgia pain, especially when matched with specific exercises. For our patients, we also consider other factors, such as nutrition and general health to help you get out of pain.

If you’re being affected by fibromyalgia, give our Beaverton, OR office a call today at (503) 642-2845 to see how we can help you.
