Beaverton Chiropractic Care Improves Sports Performance

Studies suggest that not only can chiropractic soothe sports injuries, it may even offer you a competitive edge. A study published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics found that regular chiropractic neck adjustments can enhance grip strength. The findings could have relevant implications for athletes in racquet sports, martial arts, or baseball.

The report included 18 pro judo athletes who received either chiropractic or a placebo treatment. Researchers used a hydraulic dynamometer to determine the force of athletes' grip strength right before and after each therapy. The authors specifically considered grip strength since martial arts require signifcant upper-body strength. Therapy included three chiropractic neck adjustments. The athletes who received chiropractic care experienced statistically significant improvements in grip strength, whereas the sham therapy did not produce significant effects. Typically chiropractic care increased grip strength by 10 to 16 percent.
