How to Get a Good Night's Sleep After Sustaining an Auto Injury

If you've been involved in a car accident and have back, neck, head, and/or leg pain as a result, you may find it difficult to get a good night’s sleep. To add insult to injury, if you don’t get adequate rest, you’ll likely be more sensitive to the pain, making you feel worse than you already do!

However, that doesn't mean that you have to spend your nights after your auto injury without decent shut-eye. In fact, here are two very important tips from your Beaverton, OR chiropractor that will help you get the best sleep possible, despite the pain that you feel as a result of your car accident:

• Buy a medium to firm mattress to sleep on. This will help give your back the support it needs while allowing you to be comfortable enough to drift off to sleep (and stay there).

• Lie on your side. If you sleep on your back, the aches and pains that you have as a result of your car accident could feel worse and lying on your front is just as bad. So, ideally, you want to sleep on your side with a pillow between your knees as this will give you a posture that allows you to rest with minimal pain. (If you do sleep on your back, at least put a pillow under your knees to help relieve the pressure on your lower spine.)
